Isobutyraldehyde is a colorless transparent liquid with a pungent smell. It is gradually oxidized into isobutyric acid in the air. Slightly soluble in water, miscible with ethanol, benzene, chloroform, ether, toluene, acetone, carbon disulfide. Used to synthesize cellulose esters, flavors, spices, etc. It is often used in baked foods, meat products, and frosting, too.
