Applications
Benzyl alcohol is an organic compound. It is one of the simplest aromatic alcohols and can be regarded as phenyl substituted methanol. In nature, most essential oils are present in the form of esters, such as jasmine oil, hyacinth oil, and Peru balsam all contain this ingredient.
Benzyl alcohol is an extremely useful fixative, and it is an indispensable spice in the blending of jasmine, moonflower, and ylang-ylang. Used in the preparation of soap; daily cosmetic essence. But benzyl alcohol can slowly oxidize naturally, and a part of it produces benzaldehyde and benzyl ether, which makes the commercial products often have the aroma of almonds, so it is not suitable for long storage.
